Zapotec caves near Mitla, Oaxaca
A series of caves near the archaeological site of Mitla in Oaxaca, Mexico. These caves were used by the zapotec people 10,000 years ago. There is evidence of their use for sleeping and cooking, with left over teocintle (the first domesticated maize). There are ancient paintings on the walls showing people, fish, maize, jaguars and maps of the mitla pyramids.
