Arcos de la Frontera
One of Andalucia's famous 'white towns', Arcos de la Frontera has been occupied from Neolithic times. Archaeological remains have been found also from the Bronze Age and Phoneician and Roman times. The town's dramatic sandstone cliff-side location gave it military defensive advantages that made it a desired location. Much of the current town of Arcos has history dating back to the Moorish settlement from the 11th century. I took this photo of Arcos through the window of a small plane, circling over the town just before sunset.
