Shah-i-Zinda,Samarkand, Uzbekistan

Shah-i-Zinda, translated as 'The living king' is a magnificent Necropolis in Samarkand. its current complex was built up between the 11th till 19th centuries and now includes more than twenty buildings and a shrine to a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad.

The doorway seen in the photo is from the middle of the complex and is dated from around the 14th century
