Atomic Bomb Site, Hiroshima by Eleanor Killner

Atomic Bomb Site, Hiroshima

This picture was taken during my travels in Japan and the memorial cenotaph is located in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park displaying the names of all those killed by the bomb and it is designed to frame the remains of the Dome and the Peace flame. I was struck by how integrated the park was into the life of the city, as you wandered through the different memorial spots there were children on their way to school, people walking their dogs and just going about their daily life. It highlighted the importance of the event in the city's history but also there was a strong sense that the city has and will continue to progress and move on from such a tragedy. It was incredibly peaceful and calm in this particular spot and I urge anyone to go and visit if they get the opportunity.
