Andraz Castle, Italy
The rock on which the castle stands has been transported to this particular location in the dolomites during the last glaciation. The dominance of the area is a strategic site for the control of routes coming from the South, from the North and from the East. The first historical documentation was found in 1000 AD.
Until the 15th century the castle was owned by vassals of the Lord Bishops. The castle was used to guarantee the bishop’s interests endangered by the invasion of Venice. During World War I, the castle was bombed from the Austrian mountain, turning it into ruins.
