San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge - Protest
For my generation, knowing San Francisco only from a distance, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Peace and Love movements of the 60’s were probably our most active historical visualisations.
So when I came across a more current protest group on the famous bridge, it was very much a photo souvenir to grab.
The purpose of the protest seems somewhat mixed. Despite the large “Peace” banner, other less visible references are to the Single Payer Now movement.
This is a San Francisco - based organisation with a long history of seeking affordable and publicly-funded medical cover for all people in the USA. As such it is most noticeably in conflict with medical insurance companies.
I have gone with a monochrome image for two reasons. Firstly the original colours were somewhat overwhelming and, secondly, to give the picture a kind of “newspaper” feel.
