Ancient city of Yinxu (present-day Anyang, Henan, China)
This Bronze Age chariot burial, comprising 2 horse skeletons with harness remains, 2 human skeletons (presumably grooms) and a chariot box, dates to the Late Shang dynasty (c. 13th-12th centuries BC). It was located in Yinxu (modern Anyang, Henan), the site of the last capital of the Shang dynasty. The chariot burials at Yinxu were the earliest known in China and the horses are possibly the earliest domestic horses from China. Evidence suggest that domestic horses and chariots travelled from western Asia to China.
