Norwich cathedral by Matthew Champion

Norwich cathedral

Although Norwich cathedral dates back to the norman period, it has seen many, many changes throughout the centuries. Some of these changes were the result of accidents or natural disasters, such as the great fire of 1463, others were the result of deliberate decisions by the cathedral authorities - and not all these changes have been welcomed by the wider community. In 2014 the Dean and Chapter had three new, and very modern, stained glass windows inserted on the north side of the nave. The reception was initially mixed. However, anyone who has walked through the cathedral early in the morning, and seen the colours that now splash across the creamy stonework, can hardly fail to be moved by the effect they create. A hymn of light, both ancient and modern.
