Himeji Castle, Japan by Megan Plaumann

Himeji Castle, Japan

This is one of the first views of the castle you see when trekking to the entrance. As it came into site up close it peaked out from behind the trees and the wall where I captured this beauty. This castle is significant in Japanese history, but one of the most interesting things about it is that they painted it black during World War II so the U.S. forces wouldn't bomb it. It stands as a proud symbol to many Japanese for its enduring strength.
