Lana'i Sugar Mill, Hawaii, USA by Megan Plaumann

Lana'i Sugar Mill, Hawaii, USA

This is the site of a sugar mill that was only around for three years in the late 1800s and did not even survive to see their first crop of sugar cane mature. It is on the remote North East coast of the island of Lana'i which is only accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles. This is all that remains of the sugar mill which is now overrun with kiawe trees (mesquite) which were planted to prevent erosion and provide firewood.
