Hasmányi templom, Komló, Hungary

The ruins of a church in Hungary. It was built in the 12th-13th century in early Gothic style. It was not only a church but also served as a sanctuary where the people of the village fled to from the Tatars. At that time Tatars Mongols) were a big threat to Europe and they had already conquered significant territories in Asia and Europe. Hungary was not ready to defend itself. After the invasion the country was in ruins and nearly half of the inhabited places have been destroyed. The church might have been destroyed by these Tatar armies. Ancient tombs can be found all around the church but it is not known whose graves they are. No excavations have been done here so far.
