Hasmányi templom, Komló, Hungary

A church built in the 12th-13th century in early Gothic style. It was not only a church but also served as a sanctuary where the people of the village fled to from the Tatars. At that time Tatars (Mongols) were a big threat to Europe. They had already conquered significant territories in Asia and Europe. Hungary was not ready for the war and nearly half of the inhabited places were destroyed by the Tatar armies. This church might have been destroyed by the Tatars, too. There are ancient tombs all around the church but it is not known who they belong to. No excavations have been done here so far.
