Original Lighthouse on The Calf of Man by Michelle Lewis-Robertson

Original Lighthouse on The Calf of Man

There were two lighthouses built on the Calf of Man in 1818. The lighthouse keepers and their families built a line of stone structures that served to hold a Smithy, supplies and livestock. Unfortunately both lighthouses closed when a third one was built in 1875 on Chicken Rock. Although they haven’t been used for over 100 years, the lighthouses still look really well.

While I was investigating the dilapidated Smithy building, I saw one of the lighthouses through a window. I imagined this is what it may have looked like to those who lived on the island during this period.
