Bonamargy Friary (ruins) Ballycastle

Bonamargy friary ruins are often overlooked and forgotten about. Tourists play golf and walk the beach but never seem to realise the hidden secret of this peaceful historical site and small graveyard.
The stone walls of the perimeter give an idea of what lay there before. This photo was taken through a barred gateway but I was still able to capture the nostalgic reverence. The light fell perfectly on one rectangle over the stone slab bed floor, and the archway served as a perfect frame for the pathway and headstones beyond. Beautiful, eerie, ethereal and steeped in old stories the ruins of Bonamargy Friary are not to be missed
