Victoria Mill, Accrington

Victoria Mill retains one of the few surviving mill chimneys in Accrington. When I grew up there in the 1950s and 1960s, the smoking chimneys of the cotton mills were part of the landscape. By the time I left for London, they had all shut down. I took this picture on a recent visit. The building seemed to me to reflect the tenacity of the people of Accrington, hanging on in there in the face of an uncertain future.
