Thames Refinery by Robert Wilkinson

Thames Refinery

Tate & Lyle’s Thames Refinery in Silvertown and the adjacent Plaistow Wharf have been in operation since 1882. The Refinery is now, I understand, the last remaining plant at which bulk quantities of raw food materials are still unloaded and processed on the river. I enjoy watching the tankers dock and unload their cargo – a reminder of the days when London’s Docks handled produce form all over the world.
