Buddha of Borobudur
Built in the 8th and 9th centuries by Java's Shailendra Dynasty, the Buddha of Borobudur is located in central Java, Indonesia. This is the largest Buddhist monument in the world and has now become a major Buddhist pilgrimage site. Reflecting both influences from Indian art and the indigenous influence of Indonesia, the result is a fusion of art and culture. While the various Buddha statues may appear similar on first viewing, in fact each is slightly differently set and individually unique.
