Stone Henge by Thomas Southgate

Stone Henge

I am an amateur photographer who enjoys capturing landscapes both natural and man made. This has led me to develop a particular interest in landscapes of historic / landscape value, and I am now in the process of visiting every Word Heritage site within the UK to create an entire photo record, as well as a blog about the experience - https://exploringtheuksworldheritage.blogspot.com/

As well as documenting important heritage assets within the UK, I am hoping that this journey will aid the development of my photography skills, as it is something that gives me great pleasure and satisfaction.

The image selected captures the human interaction that occurs with the stones during the Summer Solstice. The event is a real celebration of life, and light plays a huge part in those celebrations. The image selected captures the light and movement of one individual with Stone Henge looking on. Stone Henge appears to have been used throughout its history as a place of congregation and celebration, and there is something fitting that this still occurs.
