Dinorwic Slate Quarry

Long disused slate cutting benches gradually rusting at the immense Dinorwic Slate Quarry above Llanberis in North Wales. Once the second-largest slate quarry in the world, it employed over 3000 people its heyday, but lessened demand from France (a key customer) and substantial investment into what turned out to be an unproductive endeavour (Marchlyn Quarry) forced its closure in 1969.
