Sutton Scarsdale Hall, Derbyshire by Trevor R A Dingle

Sutton Scarsdale Hall, Derbyshire

Sutton Scarsdale stands more or less next to the M1 in Derbyshire. It was built in 1724-9 around an older medieval hall from 1469, the stones of which are possibly seen on the right of the photo. It was sold off for salvage in 1919 and a lot of it went to America. I like the series of door openings drawing the eye deeper into the picture and through the ruined house. I took the shot on black and white medium format film in an old folding camera, for maximum detail and a historical look.
